Hear Allegheny Sounds featuring Ornamental Nuance
Ornamental
Nuance, a new trio with a focus on Baroque music, is from the Dubois area and
consists of Paul Fehrenbach on guitar, Brian Simpson on Oboe and English Horn
and Kristina Keith on flute.
Dr.
Paul Fehrenbach is an instructor of Music and Integrated Arts at Penn State
University, DuBois Campus. He received his B.A. in English Literature form Kutztown
University, an M.A. in Music Composition from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns
Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Penn State University.
In
addition to teaching music, Paul Fehrenbach has served as concertmaster with the
Columbia Symphony in Maryland, principal 2nd violin with the Baltimore Symphonette,
and 1st violin with the New Haven Symphony. Along with performing with Ornamental
Nuance, he currently performs Celtic music with a group called Fieldstone, throughout
the Western Pennsylvania area. He lives in Kersey, PA with his wife Debbie and
daughter Amy. Brian
Simpson, the oboe and English horn player in Ornamental Nuance, has lived
in Emporium, PA since 1983. He is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania/West
Penn Hospital of Respiratory Care and is currently employed at Elk Regional Health
Center as a respiratory therapist.
While
a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Brian was a member of the university
wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, marching band and several small chamber ensembles.
He has participated in many local musical productions in the Emporium area, most
recently playing oboe and English horn in the Ridgway Area High School production
of "Les Miserables."

Kristina
Keith, the flute player in Ornamental Nuance, currently a resident of Scottdale,
PA, is a 2002 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she earned
a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. While attending Indiana University,
she participated in numerous ensembles including concert band, symphony band,
orchestra, University chorus, chorale, chamber singers, marching band and various
flute ensembles. She completed a three semester internship at the University Lab
school and experienced student teaching at Central Cambria High School and Jackson
Elementary/
During
the two years following college, Kristina has been a substitute music teacher
in the Southmoreland, Central Cambria, Dubois and Ridgway school districts. Along
with Ornamental Nuance, she is involved with the Southmoreleand and Dubois marching
bands, performs in community musicals and concerts and teaches both flute and
piano lessons.
