Breathe Carolina played Penn State at Alumni Hall, Friday, 12/2

‘Crunkcore’ specialists Breathe Carolina brought their dancing shoes to full intensity at the HUB this past Friday, sponsored by the Late Night Committee of the Student Programming Association (SPA).
With the show starting promptly at 10:15, the backing band had come out to start the show with an Avicii-type introduction to get the crowd going. Following this was the two main members, Kyle Even and David Schmitt, coming out and getting the crowd going right away with their duo vocals switching between screaming and clean duties. The band went on to play ‘Last Night (Vegas)’ complete with its outgoing lyrics of excessive drinking and not remembering what happened the night before.
The show was filled with other heavy beats and drumming patterns that was given double the power with Even jumping into the crowd every so often to either crowd surf or be apart of the mosh pit. Other old fan favorites were included in their set list with songs like ‘Hello Fascination’ and ‘I.D.G.A.F.’ These songs that got the audience jumping up on their feet with the band.
Playing roughly a 45 minute set, the show had a typical lighting setup that fit the style of music with transparent and strobe lights going off what seemed like every second. Even though Alumni Hall wasn’t at full capacity, it still had a club setting. The band had different beat samplings that even went to the dubstep style and had the audience moving non-stop.
Breathe Carolina isn’t a band I’d normally see in concert. I went to this one mainly because it was free. But I certainly enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. It proved that there are still artists who know how to let loose and make music just to have a good time.
