Introducing The Most Down-to-Earth Band You’ll Ever Meet: Pomplamoose
Posted by Brittany Barth on 09/15 at 01:43 AM
I was recently at a staff meeting where there were several new members present. The student who was leading the meeting decided that we should do an “icebreaker” in order to get to know everyone. We passed around a large, purple bouncy ball with several questions listed on it and we were to select one of them and answer it. Several people kept landing on the same question, “If you could hang out with one celebrity/musician for the day, who would it be?” It got me to thinking about which band I would hang out with given the chance. And then it came to me: Pomplamoose. Chances are you’ve never heard of the San Francisco based duo, so allow me to introduce you.
Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte created the indie-pop band back in 2008, and have produced an assortment of singles, EPs and albums since that time.
Currently the band only has one album, Tribute to Famous People, which
includes a cover of MichaelJackson’s, “Beat It,” Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September”.
The rest of the band’s music is a collection of singles and EPs, with their most recent being Hey, It’s Pomplamoose.
When you first hear their music and especially this particular EP, you’ll be taken aback. You’ll be wondering, “who is this band and what exactly is a pomplamoose?” Their sound is incredibly fun and quirky and this EP showcases the bands personality perfectly. The EP consists of eleven tracks, one of which is a cover of the Angry Birds theme song (I told you
this band was quirky).
However it’s the first song, title track “Hey, It’s Pomplamoose,” which will properly introduce you to the album, and also serve as an indicator as to what your listening experience will be. When listening, you’ll feel as though you’re entering a circus, with trapeze artists flying overheard, a ballerina tip-toeing along a tight rope above, and tigers prowling around the ringmaster in front of you. The entire album is very much like a ride on the carousel: a whimsical journey, a playful getaway for the mind.
The band is a carefree, lighthearted duo creating music that makes you feel good. If a pick-me-up is what you’ve been searching for, look no further than Pomplamoose.
