Welcome to Shakespeare's 12th Night

Language today is much different than it was in Shakespeare's time. Shakespeare can be understandable, but it helps if high school students can see it performed. Watch the body language and hear the actors as they make Shakespeare's words come alive in selected scenes from 12th Night available on this web site.

The scenes were selected by teachers who wanted to emphasize themes, such as the ability to recognize one's own folly. Try teaching 12th Night using lesson plans built around the selected scenes provided here from Penn State's 2007 theatre season.

John Basil, founding member of the American Globe theatre in New York, directed graduate students from the School of Theatre in this production. Jennifer Evans, Josie Gildow, and Gary Masquelier, English teachers from central Pennsylvania, wrote lesson plans based on these video segments.
