Pennsylvania Honors Military Heritage

I have long been enamored by the style of cinematography used for movies such as Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. The hard, gritty look seems so fitting for the topic. The visual effect, to me at least, allows the viewer to gain a more pure real sense of the characters, actions and surroundings. I have been meaning to try and recreate this effect in my still photography on the same subject matter. Of course, this style is not suitable for everything I shoot but luckily, finding the right subject matter wasn’t too hard. Definitely not hard in Pennsylvania.

Buck Season
Posted by David Walker on 12/07 at 03:52 PM
Chicken and waffles, beer distributors and first day of buck are all things I consider to fall under the “very PA” category. I always get a good chuckle when friends that live outside the state ask me silly questions like “What are perogies?” or “Why can’t we just go down to the gas station and get a six pack?” But my favorite question is easily “You guys close down schools for deer season?”

Autumn
Posted by David Walker on 11/16 at 11:46 AM
“Autumn begins with a subtle change in the light, with skies a deeper blue, and nights that become suddenly clear and chilled. The season comes full with the first frost, the disappearance of migrant birds, and the harvesting of the season’s last crops.” - Glenn Wolff and Jerry Dennis

Adventures
Posted by David Walker on 11/09 at 09:02 AM
Adventures. Ever since I graduated high school, trying to find my current address has been a nightmare for a lot of my friends and family (and sometimes the IRS, too.) In those 10 years, I had made camp in many states including Missouri, Colorado and Tennessee. If I wasn’t moving, I was exploring any place my budget would take me. And I worked many jobs to fill that budget. Draftsman, cook, mover, hospital worker, soldier, photographer. Anything that would let me see the world.
