A New Local Radio Series Premieres and a Live Concert from WPSU
Radio Feature: Irish Fiddler Visits Central PA – Wed. at 7:33am and 8:33am during Morning Edition –World-famous Irish Fiddler Kevin Burke visits Central PA this week. WPSU’s Kris Allen-also a fiddler-talked with Burke about his musical education in the Irish pubs of London.
Radio Performance: Irish “Classical” Music, Featuring Kevin Burke and Cal Scott – Wed., noon – 1pm – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on WPSU with a brand new recording of a folk/classical crossover work for string quartet. “The Irish Session Suite” was composed by Irish fiddler Kevin Burke and frequent collaborator, Cal Scott, composer of many PBS film scores. Burke tells WPSU’s Kris Allen how he aimed to help break down barriers between folk and classical music with this composition.
NEW RADIO SERIES: Pennsylvania People – “Ziggy Coyle” – Friday at 6:50am and 8:50am during Morning Edition – Pennsylvania People is the new series on WPSU where Patty Satalia talks with the most fascinating residents of the Keystone State. This week, artist Ziggy Coyle of Buffalo Run, known internationally for her off-beat ceramic sculptures portraying often-zaftig “feisty old broads.”
TV: THE CIVIL WAR – Monday – Thursday 8pm – 11pm each night. A reprise airing of Ken Burns’ epic series.
TV/Radio: LIVE AT WPSU, THE ACOUSTIC BREW: A CELTIC CELEBRATION FEATURING KEVIN BURKE AND CAL SCOTT – Saturday, 7pm – An Irish fiddler and a folk composer from Portland, Oregon, perform live at the WPSU-TV studios with opening performance by Simple Gifts. WPSU-FM will join the live concert at 8pm.
