Reading for the Cure

Charity & Outreach

7 p.m.

Penn State Altoona will hold its first “Reading for the Cure” event,
7 – 10 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in the Edith Davis Eve Chapel.  The night will include literary readings, door prizes, silent auctions, and raffles to raise funds for Penn State Hershey’s Cancer Institute, specifically for breast cancer research and treatment.

This event will be one of celebration and inspiration in which faculty, students, staff, and the general public are invited to read short pieces of literature that have inspired them. A representative from Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute will be in attendance to provide some information the Cancer Institute and the work taking place there.

There will be a breast-cancer themed quilt raffled off for $1 per ticket and a variety of books, bookmarks, pencils, and other gifts linked to various donation levels.  Door prizes include “Save Second Base” and “Fight Like a Girl” t-shirts.

“Reading for the Cure” is inspired by Clarion University’s event of the same name, which has taken place for the last twelve years and supports the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
