From the National Council for the Traditional Arts:

John Cephas, 1930-2009

It is with profound sadness that we share the news that Piedmont blues guitar master and National Heritage Fellow John Cephas died this afternoon, March 4th, 2009.  With his passing we have lost an irreplaceable national treasure.  Not only was John a great artist, but also a great supporter and defender of the traditional arts.

John was a dear friend and member of the NCTA’s board of directors for many years.  A memorial service is planned and we will communicate details as they become available.

We will all miss John!!

Best,
Art

That didn’t take it long to go from bad to worse for him. A shame.
