Researchers estimate that 5,000 people in the United States die each year from food borne diseases--a fact that rarely makes the news.  However, the finding of a single cow infected with mad cow disease has set-off such a blizzard of alarm that some American consumers are not eating beef.  How do we separate fact from fear?  William Henning is professor of dairy and animal science.  Catherine Cutter is asst. professor of food science.  Both work in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.
