Our Town: Bradford in a
nutshell...
On
a bright June day, the city of Bradford, PA, is profiled through the eyes
and cameras of nearly twenty community members. The production was the
premiere in the series of day-in-the-life programs produced by WPSU-TV.
Touring the town and countryside, stops are made everywhere from band
practice to ballet class. The show sneaks into pastry shops and winds
up in barbershops; it chats with newlyweds and catches up with folks celebrating
their 50th wedding anniversary. Its a day filled with
memories, momentos, and music. As one community member says, "Bradford
is a homey town. Its a town where you have your roots, and when
you come back you say, Yeah, I did miss it."
Feature Segment:
An early-morning peek into the John Williams European Pastry Shop
Surely
the earliest-riser in Bradford, the doughnut-making guru at the John Williams
European Pastry Shop shares a bit of pastry-preparing advice: "Just flip
two at a time; its all in the wrist. It just takes practice, practice,
practice." The spirited baker is spotlighted perfecting his craft by Paula
Johnson, a Bradford resident and loyal customer. "Its one thing
to go in and buy the doughnuts; its another thing to go in and watch
them make the doughnuts," says Johnson. And thats just what she
did. Waking in the small hours of the morning, Johnson accompanies the
pastry-maker in his morning ritual: transforming sheets of dough into
Bradfords supply of morning sweets. Along with footage of the doughnut-making
process, the viewer is indulged with plenty of bakers commentary.
"When you get up at two oclock in the morning, you get used to doing
all this quick, neat, fun stuff. Thats the doughnuts!"
