Our
Town: State College in a nutshell….
On an unseasonably warm winter day, a group of residents spent
the day videotaping the people, places and happenings of the State
College area. Located in the heart of Centre County, “Happy
Valley,” as its known to locals, is home to The Pennsylvania
State University, world famous “grilled stickeys” and
creamery ice cream as well as incredible natural beauty like nearby
Mt. Nittany.
The downtown area is a great place to live, work and play. Tree
lined streets, interesting store fronts, unique specialty stores
and great restaurants make it a fun place to spend the day. A vibrant
local music scene featuring musicians of many talents make it a
great place to spend the evening. From well-established family
businesses like O.W. Houts and The Tavern, to a thriving University,
State College is a great town-and-gown community.

Feature Segment:
Beaver Stadium
Beaver
Stadium, located on the eastern edge of the Penn State University Park
campus, is the second largest collegiate stadium in the United States.
With over 106,000 seats, it holds more people than live in State College
and it becomes the third largest city in the state on a football Saturday.
Originally, Penn State football was played on the lawn of Old Main.
Beaver Field was eventually built near the Nittany Lion Inn and when
space became a problem, they moved the games over to the eastern edge
of campus. The stadium was actually taken over to the current site
piece by piece and seats and sections were added over the years until
it reached its current mammoth size. The stadium is just one example
of the many attractions State College has to offer residents and visitors
alike.
